Walmart is to begin trialling doorstep delivery of grocery items into temperature-controlled containers outside people’s homes.

Participating customers close to its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, will be able to receive deliveries from their local Walmart stores directly into a secure smart cooler made by HomeValet. The box has three temperature-controlled zones to store frozen, refrigerated and pantry items.

Walmart, which has been testing various delivery methods to meet the pandemic-fueled surge in online shopping, said the partnership with HomeValet could potentially allow it to deliver items 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
