The global Spar family is celebrating the brand’s 90th anniversary by giving back to communities through the planting of trees with its new global tree planting initiative called Spar One Tree Planted.

In recognition of this milestone, Spar has taken action at both a local and international level by taking action together and planting hundreds of thousands of trees in Spar communities all over the world. Spar One Tree Planted symbolises the simple action of putting trees into the ground, one tree at a time.

The group has partnered with leading organisation One Tree Planted, whose vision is to make it simple for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. One Tree Planted is a non-profit environmental charity with a focus on global reforestation. They work with project partners across all major Spar regions to get trees in the ground and restore forests after fires and floods.

“Their ‘one dollar for one tree’ model makes it easy for anyone to give back to the environment and help combat climate change. They have worked with numerous high-profile brands and individuals across the globe to improve our environment,” says Spar.

The Spar One Tree Planted campaign involves multiple Spar countries from across the world, with all funds raised going towards the planting of trees. A variety of different mechanics will be implemented across the participating markets to raise these funds. Where possible, we will follow the $1 = 1 tree planted model implemented by One Tree Planted.

“Spar has always had a close affinity and connection to trees and the environment. Not only is a Fir tree an inherent element of our identity, but we have always prided ourselves on being a sustainable retailer, focused on giving back. We aim to raise as much as we can to uplift local communities, reduce environmental impact and help to build a sustainable future for all, ” the group said.

“Driven by our purpose to be the local food store of choice, for 90 years, Spar has been uplifting and growing communities around the world. And we will continue to be at the heart of the community for generations to come.”
