Costco has continued its recent strong run as shoppers flock to both its warehouses and online store during the pandemic to stock up on essentials.
Over the four weeks to 30 August, the group’s total sales rose 15.0% from $11.79bn with comparable sales (excl. the impact of fuel and currency fluctuations) up 14.5%. This was down slightly on the 15.8% recorded the previous month, with Costco saying sales were negatively impacted by the shift of Labor Day.
Comparable sales rose 14.3% in its US business and climbed 15.0% in Canada. Sales in its international division rose 15.4%.
Meanwhile, e-commerce sales jumped 101.6% as Costco continued to benefit from the surge in online shopping during the crisis.
Costco currently operates 795 warehouses, including 552 in the US and Puerto Rico, 101 in Canada, 39 in Mexico, 29 in the UK, 27 in Japan, 16 in Korea, 13 in Taiwan, 12 in Australia, three in Spain, and one each in Iceland, France, and China.
