Nominations for customers to nominate their best butchery in the 2020 Cleaver Awards are now open.

Seal of approval
After 15 years, these national butchery awards are still the sought-after seal of approval that give recognition to butcheries that meet the needs of their consumers in terms of in-store hygiene, the supply of quality-assured, roll-marked South African Beef, ability to offer the best advice on meal preparations, as well as perceived value for money.

The annual presentation of the Cleaver Awards is a unique and proven platform that raises industry standards among butcheries. They are also highly regarded within the industry as butcheries cannot enter themselves and can only be nominated by their customers.

Competition categories
Butchers will be judged according to three categories namely:

1. Butcheries with up to three till points.

2. Butcheries with four or more till points.

3. Meat market/Supermarket Butcheries

The Cleaver Awards are an initiative of the South African Red Meat Industry Forum. Once nominations are received, they are tallied, and finalists are individually and anonymously assessed against a 212-point checklist as audited by the South African Meat Industry Company (SAMIC).

Awards up for grabs
Winners in each category will receive Platinum Awards and the runners-up will receive Gold Awards. First-prize winners in each national category also receive a cash prize of R20 000 with runners-up receiving a cash prize of R10 000. There are also prizes awarded to consumers who nominate national winners.

Butcheries are encouraged to spread the word and to share via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp. Use as many platforms as possible to help your customers to vote for you!
